Gentleman Jack

I just finished painting the basement. It is not a professional job, but it was cheap. We have a bar in the basement, and it is decorated with bar stuff. Most of the stuff is Jack Daniels stuff. We have a connection, so we have a ton of Jack stuff. We have mirrors, pictures, glasses, and all kinds of stuff. I put all of this back on the wall after I was finished painting. This led to a funny conversation with Kyle.

“Jack Daniels”, he read slowly. “Jack Daniels. Dad, who is Jack Daniels, and why is our whole basement decorated with him?”

“Well, buddy, he’s just some dude that made whiskey.”

“Whiskey, what is whiskey?”

“Well, whiskey is alcohol, it’s a drink.”

“Ohhh, so you drink it. You drink it, just like you drink water?”

“Well, no. Uncle Bill drinks it like it’s water, but most people drink it slow, they sip it.”

“So you are just supposed to sip it. Why does uncle Bill drink it so fast?”

“ I don’t know, you would have to ask him that.”

“Maybe he’s just thirsty. That’s why he drinks it so fast.”

“Yeah, that’s probably it Kyle, he’s just thirsty.”

Your answer to him should have been...
Jack Daniel's is dripped slowly - drop-by-drop - through ten feet of firmly packed charcoal (made from hard sugar maple) before going into new charred oak barrels for aging. This special process gives Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey its rare smoothness. It's this extra step - charcoal mellowing - which makes Jack Daniel's a Tennessee Whiskey.

And it also helps take the pain away.

All along I thought Uncle Dan (Drinky Winky) was the drinker of the family. I guess I was wrong, Bill drinks that Chivas crap as well.
I just read Bill's comment, what pain does it take away? Maybe you wouldn't have had to take three trips to Home Depot if you weren't drinking on the job.

Bill, or William.(When you've known him as long as I have you use proper names) drinks it so fast because he thinks someone is going to take it from him. NoOne and I mean No One can handle a drink on the rocks like William. I am expecting an 11:30 PM call any day now.

Can we come over and help you paint your basement? (kidding) All we really need is a few shots of Jack!

Kids really do say funny things, don't they?

Have you ever toured the Black Jack distillery in Lynchburg? Truly an interesting way to spend an afternoon. The biggest disappointment? No more samples of the brew-now they give you lemonade. WTF?

We have friends who have a bar in their basement. And we've given them some Jack Daniels stuff - which is very nice. However, we do not have a connection, so what we give them costs quite a bit.

Have a nice day.

The Jack Daniels distillery is in a dry county in Tennessee. Yes. Dry counties still exist and it so happens that that premier whiskey making place is in one of them. Sucks. You can kind of fool yourself into getting buzzed by taking a super deep whiff from the tank thing where it's fermenting though.
